In 2015, a collaboration between DC Entertainment and IDW Publishing saw one of the oddest crossovers in crime-fighting history, The Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half Shell. This December, the two comic legends will join up again, in Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.
In the first series, the Turtles and their enemies were transported to an alternate universe through a portal during a battle. The Turtles, Master Splinter, Shredder, and a good number of Foot Ninjas wind up in Gotham. The team works together with Batman to not only get back to their universe, but must also defeat the team of Shredder and Ra’s al Ghul, as well as mutated Batman villains.
This time around, Donatello goes looking for a new mentor to help him improve his fighting skills, Batman. But when he goes through the open doorway to Gotham, Bane comes through the other side, looking to take over New York.
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II will see it’s first two issues released in December, then going monthly till it reaches the sixth and final installment in the mini-series. The series will see writer James Tynion IV (BATMAN, DETECTIVE COMICS) and artist Freddie Williams II (HE-MAN/THUNDERCATS) reunite for the second installment of the crossover.
IDW President and COO, Greg Goldstein talked about the upcoming project in a press release, noting fans excitement.
“The original crossover between Batman and the Turtles was met with such positive enthusiasm from the fans, that it was only a matter of time before their paths crossed again,” said IDW President and COO, Greg Goldstein. “Fans have themselves to thank for making this a reality, yet again, and we’re confident that we can deliver the goods to meet their expectations with our talented creative team returning for round two.”
Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II Issue #1 will hit comic retailers and digital outlets on December 6, with issue #2 following two weeks later on December 20.
