This year’s Battlefield 6 could be getting many new features, including a free-to-play mode, PC and console cross-play, 128 players maps, and more. Well-known Call of Duty and Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson, a.k.a TheLongSensation, talked about this in his new video. He’s referring to the game as ‘Battlefield 6′ for simplicity’s sake and not because the title has been confirmed internally.
According to his testimony, DICE is upgrading its Levolution (environmental destruction) system again. Destruction on Battlefield 6 will be Levolution “on steroids.” You’re allowed to completely demolish almost every buildings on the whole map, except for the ones that objectives are in. Depending on the location where you damage it, a building will crumble and fall in a specific pattern. For comparison, in the previous games Levolution/destruction system works like this:
- Bad Company 2: Two-or-three tiny destructible buildings with the same destruction animation practically copy-pasted throughout the map.
- Battlefield 3: Bigger buildings can be destroyed, and falling debris could kill you, but smaller buildings cannot be destroyed.
- Battlefield 4: Bigger buildings can be collapsed, but falling debris was gone. There are also one or two special map-changing events when a specific structure is destroyed.
The four-men Squad system is returning along with the standard Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon classes like in Battlefield 3 and 4. But this time, around three to five different Squads can form a Unit, and each Unit will have its own Commander. Hopefully, this new Commander system gives you the ability to request supports just like in Battlefield 4 to add more tactical elements into a match.
And as one of the new features, cross-play between PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC is said to be coming for Battlefield 6. If EA decided to release PS4 and Xbox One versions, they won’t be left out and will be incorporated into the cross-play system. Additionally, it will be getting Battle Pass with eight to 10 week seasons, each with 100 levels.
The game will have a free-to-play element that, he thinks, most likely will be a Battle Royale spin-off. Although fan feedback on Battlefield V‘s Firestorm and the specifics are still up in the air, this decision, Henderson added, could be driven by COD Warzone‘s success. He also said that he might get into this a bit more detailed in a future video.
In August, Henderson also tweeted that the new Battlefield 6 maps are designed to accommodate a “128+ players” match. The classic 32 vs. 32 will be the standard playlist, but this decision could be supporting evidence for the Battle Royale theory. You can watch Henderson’s video below.

Battlefield 6 was first teased to the public back in June last year, in the EA Play Live streaming event. In EA’s quarterly earnings report, CEO Andrew Wilson said it would take full advantage of PS5 and Xbox Series X’s computing power and feature maps with “unprecedented scale.” The official reveal should come out in spring, and the game is planned to be released for the 2021 holiday season.
The leak about Battlefield 6’s free-to-play mode and crossplay is pretty exciting. But as usual, always take leaked information with a grain of salt. Some features could end up getting left out if it doesn’t work after all. Stay tuned for more news about Battlefield and other EA titles.
