Thymesia, the latest indie soulslike from the team at OverBorder Studio and publisher Team17, has announced that it’s sharpening its blades for an August 9 release date on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S! The news was announced through a fresh release date trailer showcasing some of the gameplay players can expect. You can find the said trailer below!
How Does Thymesia Stand Out in the Pack?
Thymesia, at first glance, takes many queues from everyone’s favorite Dark Souls series. Though where it manages to differ, instead of in standard gameplay, is in the beautifully fluid animations and overall visual style. Attacks from you, the player, either come out with such beautifully vibrant finesse or through a spray of blood worthy of a solid blade slash. With plenty of abilities at the player’s disposal too, there’s sure to be plenty of nuance when it comes to gameplay alongside looking beautiful while doing it. While there’s no doubt been plenty of indie soulslikes out there, Thymesia looks sure it’ll manage to stand out amongst the pack. I for one am excited to see it possibly do so.
As said, Thymesia comes from the team over at indie developer OverBorder Studio, which is a fresh group of talent straight out of Taiwan. For a team that has yet to make another game, their first title is already looking excellent and holds a lot of promise for its future. Meanwhile, the seasoned veterans at publisher Team17 are well renowned for holding many indie greats under their belt. Whether it be through publishing cooking party masterpiece Overcooked, the infamous Worms series, or any of their other adventures, one thing they know well is how to spot a great indie title. Hopefully, that continues true here.
For now, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are you excited about Thymesia’s imminent release date? What do you hope to see it shake up best from its competition? Let me know in the comments below!
