In anticipation of the release of Dragon Ball FighterZ on January 26, Bandai Namco has released a number of character trailers to show off some of the fighters’ skills. Black Goku got a trailer last Monday and Hit got one on that Wednesday. Now, one of the more obscure characters, Beerus, from the Dragon Ball Z universe has received a trailer showing off his power in a battle against Goku.
In the trailer, you witness how the God of Destruction will handle opponents in Dragon Ball FighterZ. As seen in the film that first introduced the character, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Beerus remains his sleepy self. Luckily, he has his trusty bodyguard, Whis, to keep him in the zone. Beerus may seem like a sleepy sloth before battle, but, as you see in the trailer, he packs quite a punch. His most powerful move, “Creation Before Destruction”, will be a useable technique in the game, as the trailer shows off.
The key here for Bandai Namco is balancing all of these characters so that one of them doesn’t feel as overpowered as the rest of them. Previous Dragon Ball Z games have achieved this feat relatively well. In Budokai 3, each character’s abilities did only a certain amount of damage, regardless of the true level of power from the move. Of course, if you were able to transform into Super Saiyan 7 with Goku, then the power of that form would be available to take down your enemies. But that wasn’t easy to do. I can imagine that Dragon Ball FighterZ will be comparable in this sense: characters will have their own base moves, combos, and abilities that’ll do about the same amount of damage as others. But when their more advanced abilities are used, like Beerus’ “Creation Before Destruction,” that’s when you’ll experience a bigger damage output. It won’t be easy getting to these super moves, I can imagine; otherwise, the game would end up being a little unbalanced.
The beta was released today for Xbox One and PS4 and will run until January 16 until 12 AM (US Pacific Time). There’s a designated list of characters you can choose from, but there are many more that’ll be playable upon the game’s full release. Beerus happens to be one of them; as well as a brand new character, Android 21. Dragon Ball FighterZ is set to release later this month on January 26th, 2018.
