Beetlejuice 2 has officially added Jenna Ortega to its cast and set an official release date. It was announced last year that Brad Pitt’s company Plan B Entertainment would be producing Beetlejuice 2. In March of this year, reports came out that Ortega was in talks to join the project. Now Beetlejuice 2 is officially in the works, and according to Variety, Ortega has been officially cast as the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). To top all of that good news off, Warner Bros. has announced a release date for Tim Burton’s sequel to his 1988 comedy classic. Beetlejuice 2 will hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
Jenna Ortega Joins ‘Beetlejuice 2’
Jenna Ortega is almost too perfectly cast as the daughter of Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice 2. In the original movie, Lydia is a goth and dark teenager obsessed with the macabre. Ortega’s acclaimed performance as Wednesday Addams was quite similar. This comes as no surprise since Beetlejuice and Wednesday both come from the mind of Tim Burton. Exactly how similar the two characters are and how their relationship functions are unknown, as are many of the plot details surrounding Beetlejuice 2.
In spite of all her success and gaining yet another role, Ortega has undergone some heat recently. According to Teen Vogue, Ortega stirred up controversy in March when she said she would frequently change lines on the Wednesday series. Ortega’s comments have come under fire in the midst of the current Writers’ Strike. Regardless, Ortega is a rising star likely to draw in a big audience for Beetlejuice 2.
Along with Ortega, Michael Keaton is reprising his role as the title character, and Winona Ryder is set to return as Lydia. Catherine O’Hara is rumored to return as Lydia’s stepmother Delia, and Justin Theroux has reportedly signed on for an unknown role.
With a growing cast and a release date set, the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2Â is officially out of limbo.
