Since making her debut on Below Deck, Captain Sandy Yawn has been involved in multiple feuds with her co-stars. Captain Sandy joined Below Deck Mediterranean in 2017 after replacing Captain Mark Howard. Sandy immediately slotted into the role, and she impressed fans with her handling of the crew members. However, it took only a short time for things to change.
Initially, Sandy had an excellent on-screen relationship with co-star Hannah Ferrier, but their disputes soon began to dominate the headlines from the show. The duo’s frosty relationship eventually culminated in Hannah getting off the show during season 5. Since then, Sandy has continued to grow with the franchise; however, over the years, the Captain has dominated headlines for her countless feuds with her fellow cast.
Captain Sandy and Hannah Ferrier
After her debut on Below Deck Med, Captain Sandy’s micromanaging style caused a rift between her and Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier. The duo’s strained relationship became the highlights of Below Deck Med season 2. However, the two managed to get through the season without further issues. Still, season 3 started on a positive note as the two showed a better understanding of each other. However, things soon turned sour again when Hannah began having feelings for bosun Conrad Epson. Afterward, Sandy called her out for slacking on her job and focusing too much attention on Conrad. Sandy nearly fired Hannah at some point in season 3 but elected not to do so.
It looked like the pair had left their feuding days behind during season 4 of Below Deck Med as they went through most parts of the season without any significant rift. However, things ultimately reached a dead end when Sandy passed a vote of no confidence on Hannah towards the end of the season. Still, it took till season 5 before Hannah’s time on Below Deck Mediterranean ended abruptly. Malia White reported the chief stew for having unregistered Valium and a CBD vape pen in her cabin. Sandy called Hannah into the bridge and informed her of her sacking. Although Hannah was furious with the decision, she left the boat without incident. However, the next few weeks saw her unleash her true feelings toward Sandy. The pair have since exchanged jibes and aimed subtle digs at each other without any sign of reconciling.
Captain Sandy and Captain Lee
Captain Sandy joined Below Deck season 10 as a temporary replacement for Captain Lee Rosbach — who took a break to deal with health issues. Sandy immediately got called into action as the frosty relationship between Alissa Humber and Camille Lamb threatened the boat’s harmony. Camille’s constant fighting with Alissa and her bad attitude eventually led to her getting fired by Captain Sandy. While most people had no issues with the firing, Captain Lee called Sandy out for not informing him before taking action. Lee’s public criticism of Sandy led to a social media war between the two, which climaxed this month after Sandy threw significant shade at Lee by claiming he was not acting his age.
Captain Sandy and Fraser Olender
Soon after taking over from Captain Lee on Below Deck season 10, Sandy immediately got on the back of her chief stew Fraser Olender. She called him out over his handling of his team members and felt he wasn’t doing enough. Sandy would also berate Fraser before the crew members, further straining their relationship.
However, things reached a breaking point between the two during the February 13 episode of the show. While sitting with Fraser, Sandy aired her concerns to the chief stew after Alissa talked back to her several times. This comes after Sandy had caught wind that Fraser had been sharing his thoughts about her with some of his co-workers, including Alissa. Sandy went on to slam Fraser’s leadership qualities and called him the cancer of the boat. In her words:
“When I see where we can change things, I expect you to go downstairs and shoulder what I just told you. That needs to be improved and not permeate the boat with cancer.”
Sandy’s words cut deep into Fraser, and he was later seen crying as he narrated the incident while speaking to his mom on the phone. Unsurprisingly, fans rose to his defense and have since called out Sandy as the season’s villain. Everywhere Captain Sandy goes, trouble seems to follow. She would have to shake off that bad reputation if she wants to make real progress on the show, as fans are already losing patience with her.
