Political Mario Sanders World
Indie studio Kitsune Games has launched a Bernie Sanders political platformer that aims to boost the campaign for the presidential candidate. Super Bernie World takes notable keys from a retro age where Mario, the renowned Italian plumber, was making big headlines for the NES.
Following a recent tweet announcing their endorsement for Sanders only a month ago, the developers decided to create an NES-inspired adventure where you play as the man himself. Set within a Super Mario-esque world, you’ll travel across 12 U.S. states as you face off against the array of opposing conservatives: from the MAGAmbas to the Mitch Troopas and ICE Bullets until you eventually face off against the President of the United States himself.

President of Kitsune Games, Emma Maassen, commented that his policies are “the best way forward”, on a blog post she wrote on the website. Designing a video game alongside the endorsement seems like the best route for a game company who stands beside Bernie Sanders.
Use power-ups such as Vermont cheddar cheese, red roses, and invincibility through the “Not Me, Us” symbolism. Collect votes as you tread through red hats and dangerous encounters with notable senators and a congressman who dare step in Sanders’s way. The game works as a Super Mario clone, and the familiar mechanics from the side-scrolling platformer from Nintendo seemed to have been replicated well in this short adventure for Sanders.
Partners in Politics
Kitsune Games have partnered up with Gamedevs of Bernie to promote and generate awareness for the presidential run for Sanders and the electoral race occurring this year. They have a strong belief and support system for the candidate, stating that Sanders’s platform “is built upon the power of #NotMeUs.” They’ve also included ways to contribute assistance to empowering his campaign in the game’s main menu and through their social media connections.
Super Bernie World can be downloaded for free via the Steam store, or it can be played on the spot through their website. The political activism game has received positive reviews from users as election votes continue to roll in.
