The Bill Nye Peacock series, The End is Nye, releases on August 25th for the streaming service. The series comes from the Science Guy, Seth McFarlane, and Brannon Braga (Star Trek: The Next Generation). Braga will serve as director and showrunner. The three of them will executive produce with Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald. François Sylvestre will produce.
Each of the six 45-minute episodes will explore different disasters, both natural and unnatural. With Bill Nye hosting the Peacock series, he will break down the science behind each topic. In the episodes, he will explore how people can survive by mitigating or preventing the issue.
“Right now our world is a very scary place, and yet full of opportunities to make life better for all of us— for everyone on Earth,” Bill Nye said about the Peacock series in a statement. “Speaking of Earth, the big idea behind The End Is Nye is that for the first time in the history of our planet, we humans can control our fate. We can see the potential for these overwhelming disasters, and we have the means to avoid them. With science, we can change the world.”
The end of the world is a dark topic for someone that 90s kids grew up watching. Braga spoke about the show and what they hope audiences gain from the series.
“The End of Nye is a relationship show. It’s about our relationship with nature and how it can end in total disaster,” he said. “It’s also about how science can help that relationship to survive and thrive. Yes, The End of Nye is terrifying, but our ultimate goal is to boost human confidence with a welcome jolt of optimism about the future and scientific understanding.”
Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill Nye, the Peacock Series Guy
Before his Peacock series, Bill Nye made a name for himself with his kid-friendly science show Bill Nye the Science Guy. The series ran from 1993 to 98. More recently, he returned with Netflix’s Bill Nye Saves the World. The series had three Emmy nominations across its three-season run before getting canceled.
The End is Nye will premiere on Peacock on August 25th.
