Archetype Entertainment is a brand new game development studio from the makers of Dungeons and Dragons, Wizards of the Coast. The Austin based company is made up of veterans who worked at BioWare, and now they’re working on a sci-fi roleplaying game.
The team consists of the head of studio James Ohlen and general manager Chad Robertson so far. However, Archetype is looking to hire other members to flesh out their unannounced science fiction RPG.
At Archetype, we believe there will always be a place for story-driven roleplaying games that put the player at the center of an epic personal narrative with impactful choices. We are building games that represent the diversity of our audience. We also believe that game studios should empower top developers and challenge them with ambitious projects that are shaped by a strong, clearly communicated creative vision.”
They didn’t release any details about what to expect from the game, but coming from the makers of Mass Effect, Anthem, and KOTOR, fans can understand what to expect.
Archetype’s website does feature a few pictures showcasing a futuristic city that looks like it belongs in the Star Trek universe. The company released a statement on Twitter saying,
We are thrilled to finally announce our new studio – Archetype Entertainment! Led by @JamesOhlen and @crobertson_atx, we are developing a multi-platform roleplaying game set in an all-new science fiction universe. Check out the website in our bio for job opportunities.”
Excited to be working with @JamesOhlen again at our new studio, Archetype Entertainment. Early days, but we already have a super-star team forming and look forward to sharing more on what we're building. https://t.co/nZvXKVbSUu

Ohlen was the creative director and lead designer on Star Wars: The Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Dragon Age. He worked at BioWare for 22 years before leaving in 2018 to found Archetype in 2019.
Robertson was the head of live services for Anthem before leaving last October.
Here’s hoping we learn more about Archetype Entertainment’s upcoming game sometime in the near future.
