With Dragon Age 4 in the “middle of production,” another executive producer has ended their journey with BioWare. Christian Dailey a Bioware Executive Producer had been with the company since 2018 and most recently oversaw Dragon Age 4’s development as Executive Producer while providing a recent update. In his departure tweet, Dailey stated that he was “looking forward to cheering on the team and playing as a fan.”
BioWare dropped the blog update on February 23rd to give fans an idea of where production is on the highly anticipated RPG. The blog states that “our blueprint was completed last year, so we’re now focused on building out our vision…creating amazing environments, deep characters, strong gameplay, impactful writing, emotional cinematics – and much more.”
Trouble in Paradise?
While the update about the development of Dragon Age 4 is encouraging, the studio is no stranger to frequent changes. BioWare’s fanbase can’t help but notice the string of departures from the company in the past few years:
- Casey Hudson- producer of the original Mass Effect trilogy left in 2014, returning in 2017 only to leave again in 2020.
- David Gaider- lead writer of the first three Dragon Age games left in 2016 to join Beamdog, then cofounding Summerfall Studios.
- Aaryn Flynn- studio head for Dragon Age 2, Inquisition, and Mass Effect 3 left in July 2017 to join Improbable.
- Mike Laidlaw- creative director for the first three Dragon Age games left in 2017 to join Ubisoft Quebec, but ultimately found Yellow Brick Games.
- Mark Darrah- executive producer on the Dragon Age series left in 202
- Matt Goldman- creative director after Laidlaw left in 2021
Looking Forward
Gary McKay, the general manager of BioWare, reassured fans not to worry. In the blog, he mentioned that “a strong leadership team of industry and Dragon Age veterans is in place to carry us through Production and beyond.” He also stated that BioWare is hard at work on the next Mass Effect game as well, led by one of the developer’s veterans, Mike Gamble. The blog went on to report that fans can look forward to more information about Dragon Age 4 later this year in the form of blogs and social content.
