Yesterday, DC debuted its Black Adam trailer with Dwayne Johnson as the titular character. In the trailer, DCEU fans see Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Johnson’s protagonist. If you are not a comic book reader, you may not know these characters. To prepare for the new movie, DC is releasing a series of one-shot comics called Black Adam: Justice Society Files that highlight each of these characters.
Behind Black Adam: Justice Society Files
Two known comic writers will be penning each of these stories. The supporting cast’s background stories will be by Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic). The comic book writer will make his debut with DC. He has been known for Star Wars, Doctor Who, Vikings, and Power Rangers. Writing the story covering the main character will be Bryan Q. Miller (Smallville). Miller has also written Teen Titans and Batgirl comics.
The first issue of the Black Adam comics line, Justice Society Files, will follow Hodge’s Hawkman with Hawkman #1, releasing July 5. It will tell his story of going from an archeologist who turns into an Egyptian prince, superhero, and the leader of Justice Society. Artists Scot Eaton, Norm Rapmund, and Andrew Dalhouse will work with Scott on the issue. The following releases will be Cyclone #1 in August with artists Maria Laura Sanapo and Arif Prianto, Atom Smasher #1 in September with Travis Mercer and John Kalisz making the artwork and the finale before the film with Doctor Fate #1 with artists Jesus Merino and Ulises Arreola.
The covers of Justice Society Files will be done by Kaare Andrews. Variant covers will be available that will show off the actors as their heroes.
If you gear up for the film with Black Adam: Justice Society Files, then you will be ready by the time it releases in theaters on October 21.
