After weeks of waiting and delays, Blue Box Studios has finally updated the Abandoned: Realtime Experience app on PS5. Although, the contents of the app are still fairly limited. The menu inside the Realtime Experience app shows off what future content is coming and the “Introduction” trailer.
Originally delayed to release on August 10, Blue Box delayed releasing the update patch for the Abandoned: Realtime Experience app due to “technical issues.” It would take nearly two full days before the patch was released on Friday the 13th. Coincidentally, the update also lands on the seventh anniversary of Hideo Kojima’s P.T release, which didn’t go unnoticed by theorists online.
Blue Box said that the actual reveal trailer for Abandoned would be available at a later date. However, many were disappointed by the same footage that the developer posted on Twitter earlier in the week appears in the “Introduction” video. Running at just over a minute long, the trailer shows a person walking on wooden floorboards with twangy music in the background. It also teases that a “Playable Prologue” for Abandoned will be available soon.
This upcoming demo may be similar to Kojima’s P.T for Silent Hills – yet another coincidence. Kojima originally released the “Playable Teaser” for his project with Guillermo Del Toro after a teaser trailer the fake 7780s Studio released during Gamescom 2014. Still regarded as one of the best horror experiences in gaming, the existence of the demo and the leadup to the reveal all mirror the path Blue Box Studios has taken with Abandoned. It is almost hard not to see the parallels and wonder if this is Kojima up to his tricks yet again.

Coincidences aside, the most baffling standpoint thus far is the notoriety that the project has garnered within the industry. Geoff Keighley supposedly has inside information about the game, as do certain individuals who have spoken to game director Hasan Kahraman. Moreover, Sony has backed Blue Box Studios with a lot of promotion on PS5. Whether or not the mystery surrounding Abandoned will be solved anytime soon is up to Blue Box and Sony to decide as almost no one has concrete information about what the Japanese publisher has planned next.
