Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new addition to their line-up of first-party studios: Bluepoint Games. Recently, Bluepoint Games is responsible for the PlayStation 5 remake of Demon Souls. But the team also worked on the PlayStation 4 remaster of Shadow of the Colossus and the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PlayStation 4.
Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, commented on the new partnership with Bluepoint:
Bluepoint has built a name for itself by creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry… With each of its projects, Bluepoint has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.”
Bluepoint Games president Marco Thrush spoke about becoming a PlayStation first-party studio:
PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”
In an interview with IGN, Thrush spoke briefly about what they’re working on next. “Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us. The transition from remasters to remakes was to test ourselves and push ourselves harder for the next step.” With Bluepoint’s history, one can’t help but wonder if they are working on an existing franchise or something entirely new.
