It’s safe to say that Baby Yoda has taken the internet by storm. For what is essentially a very minor character in Disney+’s The Mandalorian series, it has tremendous power equal to that of the force when it comes to capturing the hearts and minds of the people.
But, as it has already been made clear, the creature isn’t actually called Baby Yoda. Yes, it looks like a little version of the esteemed Jedi Master alright, but the truth remains it’s just of the same species. Nobody knows the creature’s true name – well, at least nobody outside of show creator Jon Favreau and Disney boss Bob Iger.
Indeed, Bob Iger made it clear he knows Baby Yoda’s real name in a recent interview on the official Star Wars YouTube channel. And what was even funnier is that apparently, Jon Favreau is pretty touchy about the creature being referred to by its proper name, not its internet moniker.
We don’t refer to The Child the way the world is referring to [the character], which is ‘Baby Yoda.’ That’s a no-no. It’s not [Yoda]. I got chastised in my early emails to Jon Favreau for [calling him that]. It just seemed easy. I got my wrist slapped by Jon a few times [who said,] ‘It’s not Baby Yoda!’
As to when the true name of ‘Baby Yoda’ – or ‘The Child’ as he is officially known – will be revealed is anybody’s guess. But The Mandalorian has officially ended its first-season run and a second season is already in the principal photography phase. So, that fateful force-shattering day may very well come.
Created by Jon Favreau (who you may know as ‘Happy’ from the Marvel Cinematic Universe), The Mandalorian has garnered positive critical reception – not just for Baby Yoda. While the first season was launched alongside Disney+ earlier this year, the second is due to start Fall 2020.
