Borat Subsequent Moviefilm breakout star Maria Bakalova is setting out for a galactic adventure for Marvel Studios as she has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for an unknown yet important role, as reported by Deadline.Â
When the film wrapped filming last month, director James Gunn teased an “unannounced actor” to play a key part, but that was not Bakalova. So, it seems the third entry will have such a stacked cast that we won’t realize how stacked it is until later. The film will feature returning stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, and Elizabeth Debicki. In addition, it will star newcomers Will Poulter (Midsommar) as Adam Warlock and Chuk Iwuji (Peacemaker) in an unknown role.
Behind the Guardians of the Galaxy
Filming started back in November. The production ran simultaneously with the upcoming Holiday Special for Disney Plus, which is set to release this holiday season. Fans will get Marvel Studios’ first series of shorts this August with I Am Groot, with Diesel reprising his role as the talking tree. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release in theaters on May 5, 2023, with Maria Bakalova. It will mark Gunn’s final Guardians project, and Bautista will play his role as Drax the Destroyer for the last time.
Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith are executive producing. David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther will act as co-producers. Is this a good direction for Maria Bakalova joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Maria Bakalova’s career
Bakalova broke out as Sacha Baron Cohen’s costar for his long-awaited sequel to Borat, where she played his daughter. It gained her traction and accolades, like an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Later this year, she will star in the horror-comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies. The film will star Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Rachel Senott (Call Your Mother), Chase Sui Wonders (On the Rocks), Myha’la Herrold (Plan B), Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Connor O’Malley (Palm Springs).
