Ukrainian-Slovakian developer Triomatica Games has unveiled its trailer for the upcoming animated film and puzzle game, Boxville. Starting on November 17, a Kickstarter campaign will commence for Boxville, along with a playable demo that Steam users can download now.
Boxville: A 2-for-1 Adventure in a City of Boxes
Boxville tells the story of a city made of boxes and the cans that live in them. All is well and happy until a giant earthquake wrecks havoc on the city. To his great dismay, our hero Blue Can has lost his best friend amid the rubble and dust. He’ll need to tread among the wreckage if he is to find his friend while also helping others along the way. To get a sneak peek of Blue Can’s journey, be sure to check out the official demo trailer below.
Boxville is told through a hybrid genre of film animation and a puzzle game. While engaging in a series of puzzles, the story will continue to progress without any timed or negative consequences. In other words, players are encouraged to take their time with the activities to further immerse themselves in the old-school art style of the game. Boxville‘s Lead Artist, Anna Marinenko, spoke about her mission with finding the game’s style:
I spent several months on finding our unique graphic style. I have an architectural background, so I wanted to create deep and geometrically correct views. Perspective and realistic lights are fundamental for me. However, I didn’t want to create hyper realistic graphics for Boxville, because it feels cold and synthetic. So, I was searching for the balance between physically correct lightning, architectural sketches’ style and a cartoony look.”
The Kickstarter launch date for Boxville will occur on Wednesday, November 17, but you can play the demo now through Steam. You can visit the page here to be notified when it goes live. And be sure to leave a comment down below on which puzzle you’re looking forward to solving with Blue Can!
