HBO corporate drama Succession is on top of its game after winning four Emmys, including best drama. While the series is in the making of its fourth season, Succession star Brian Cox has said he hopes it ends soon so it won’t become a long-running series like Billions. Although he doesn’t know when the end will come, he told British outlet The Times about how he wants the show to go out on top and not “overstay its welcome.”
“No one’s had their contracts renewed,” he said. “Who knows how long it will go on? We don’t want it to overstay its welcome, like Billions; that’s past its sell-by-date. That will not happen to our show.”
The similarities are there as Showtime’s Billions and HBO’s Succession with Brian Cox as the leader of a multi-billion dollar corporation both deal with ruthless elites. The Showtime series, which follows hedge fund managers navigating the world of finances, started in 2016. In that time, it has run for six seasons. Earlier this year, it was renewed for a seventh. Meanwhile, the Emmy-winning HBO series has its fourth season on the horizon with no news about a fifth season. Comparatively, the HBO series has 30 episodes; meanwhile, the series with Paul Giamatti has over 70.

When it comes to a conclusion, Brian Cox has said the Succession writers have “an endgame in sight.” While it is all speculation as scripts don’t arrive to the cast until late in the process, for the actor, he believes it will end at the latest by season 5. Pieces have been set from the last season that has shown the light at the end of the tunnel, even if we still don’t know who will come out on top of the corporate food chain.
No release date has been announced for the fourth season of the series. You can catch up on HBO Max to prepare for the madness that will ensue in the next outing.
