Getting your vehicle towed is never an experience anyone wants to go through. Cars these days are expensive, and the last thing you want is someone else handling your property. Most people, when faced with a situation like this, have the good sense not to make things worse. However, one man in Brooklyn, New York, had a very different idea. When his truck was being towed away, he decided the best course of action was to jump into the tow truck itself. Instead of calmly talking things out to try to resolve the situation, the man immediately turned aggressive and even began chasing the tow truck driver.

Soon, his attention shifted from the driver to the tow truck itself. He climbed into the driver’s seat, determined to take matters into his own hands. In the video, you can hear the fierce struggle behind the camera as the Brooklyn man and the tow truck driver fought for control of the vehicle. Shouting filled the air as the man demanded that his vehicle be released. When the tow truck driver refused, the situation spiraled out of control.

In a reckless move, the man decided to try and drive away with both trucks. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have the skill to safely maneuver a tow truck carrying another vehicle. Chaos erupted almost instantly. The Brooklyn man’s truck swerved wildly as it was dragged along, crashing into a nearby parked car. Despite the collision, he didn’t seem to notice, or care, as he continued speeding down the street.

The runaway tow truck struck several more parked vehicles, its open driver-side door hitting anything in its path. Eventually, as the man made a sharp turn, the towed truck broke loose and toppled onto its side, crashing onto the pavement with a loud thud.

After the wreck, the man reportedly abandoned the tow truck and tried to flee the scene. His escape didn’t last long, though. Police were later able to track him down and charge him for his actions.

When footage of the chaotic incident made its way online, internet users were both stunned and amused by what they saw. What could have been a minor situation quickly became a full-blown disaster because of one man’s refusal to stay calm.

“Talk about making things worse for yourself,” one user wrote. Another added, “That is an unfathomable level of stupidity. I wonder what was going through his mind as he watched the truck get destroyed in the rearview.”

Others joked about what his thought process must have been at that moment. “Would love to hear the internal monologue switch from ‘I’m gonna keep my truck from being repo’d’ to ‘I guess I’m now speeding away from multiple felonies in my new stolen tow truck,’” one user quipped.
