While many have enjoyed watching the SXSW premiere of Evil Dead Rise, Bruce Campbell shut down one heckler who did not enjoy the cheese-grating brutality. The person in question shouted, “This movie f—ing sucks,” and threw an empty popcorn container, opening up the door for boos and laughs from both the audience and the people behind the film.
The mood shifted after the film during the Q&A. In the footage, captured by Next Best Picture founder Matt Neglia, a man on the balcony is seen leaning with his feet propped up on his phone. Someone at the event is speaking to him, to which he angrily responds. When asked about what was going on, he said how much the movie sucked before storming off. The Evil Dead Rise heckler was leaving and flipping people off, leaving him open to Bruce Campbell, saying, “What are you doing here? Get the f— out of here.” The audience cheered, and producer Robert Tapert added, “I don’t get it. He waited all through the credits.”
Scrolling through the replies and other tweets, people were both delighted by Bruce Campbell calling out the Evil Dead Rise heckler and wanted to see the movie more due to the popcorn thrower’s reaction to the film.
‘Evil Dead Rise’ heckler gets shut down by Bruce Campbell at SXSW premiere
Glad the crowd & Bruce Campbell tore this guy up because that was incredibly disrespectful. This also only makes me want to see #EvilDeadRise even more now if it inspires audience members to be this childish #SXSW pic.twitter.com/woH8pncMDc

Evil Dead Rise, in which Bruce Campbell has a cameo while serving as an executive producer, acts as a sequel to the original films to further expand the universe. It goes in a new environment, away from the cabin from the original films and the small town setting of Ash vs Evil Dead as it is in an apartment in Los Angeles. After getting pregnant, Beth (Lily Sullivan) sees her estranged sister, Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), for some advice. After an earthquake, the Necronomicon arrives and turns Ellie and other residents into Deadites. Beth must protect her sister’s children from their demonic mother and neighbors.
The film will rev up its chainsaw in theaters on April 21.
