On top of a pay gap that was revealed last month, Bryce Dallas Howard told Metro that the studio executives wanted her to lose weight before Jurassic World Dominion. The conversation had gone on during the previous films, and when it did for the final installment in the Chris Pratt blockbuster trilogy, director Colin Trevorrow stepped in to assist the star by rejecting the studio demands.
“On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me because the conversation came up again, ‘We need to ask Bryce to lose weight.'”
Trevorrow backing up Bryce Dallas Howard for Jurassic World Dominion allowed her to do more stunts and action-packed sequences on her own rather than having a stunt double. She said she was “thrilled” to be doing those scenes “with my body.” The director’s argument was based on different body types and “kinds of women” both in the world and in the dinosaur-filled film.
“[Colin] was like, ‘There are lots of different kinds of women on this planet and there are lots of different kinds of women in our film.’ I got to do so many stunts that wouldn’t have been possible if I had been dieting.”
Executives wanted Bryce Dallas Howard to lose weight for Jurassic World 3
Reports had come out about the pay gap between leading man Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard for the first Jurassic World. She then came out to say it was worse than what was reported. She said it was “so much less” than her being reported to have made $8 million when he made $10 million. Like the director defending her body, the Guardians of the Galaxy star tried to help get her better deals, particularly with movie tie-ins, like video games and theme park rides. When it came to the films, due to the deal structure of signing up for three films, there was not much he or anyone could do as it was too late.
The sequel trilogy to Jurassic Park grossed more worldwide than the original films. The trilogy has grossed $3.9 billion, and considering the originals, the franchise has grossed $5.5 billion. The third film is still in some theaters but can also be watched on streaming services.
