Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming strong as the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is just around the corner releasing on Friday, February 17th. This is what kicks off Phase 5, and in a recent interview with Kevin Feige, much more was talked about for the early plans of the MCU. Not only were things like Blade and Spider-Man talked about, but also the upcoming film Thunderbolts. Feige confirmed who the leader will be for the team the Thunderbolts, and it is the one and only Bucky Barnes, who is known also as The Winter Soldier.
Bucky Barnes Will Lead The Thunderbolts
Kevin Feige recently had an interview with Entertainment Weekly where Thunderbolts was brought up, and he went on to discuss some of it. Back in September 2022 at D23, he talked about the team and how “none of them would consider themselves heroes.” And quite honestly, it makes even more sense why Bucky will then be the leader of the team. Someone who has been through so much trauma and just feels worthy, maybe now he will see what his fans see. “What’s fun about that, and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes. None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that’s sort of all you need to know. That’s the trickle down.”
Having Bucky Barnes as the team leader is something that many fans wanted, although, many are still wondering why Frank Castle, The Punisher seems to not be in the movie. We can hope that would change but with so many things already done for the film, it is unlikely. Sebastian Stan, who plays the role of Bucky, has also gone on record to say that he hasn’t read the script for the upcoming movie yet.
