The basis for most horror video games tend to revolve around the same concept. You play as a character who must fight, run or survive the monsters in that game in order to win. But how fun would it be to play as one of those monsters? That is what indie developer Sebastian Krośkiewicz had in mind when creating his new reverse horror game, Carrion.
In this inverted take on the genre, the player will be put on the shoes of a creepy looking, symbiote-like monster. The Carrion is able to traverse the levels quickly with its stringy form, hunting down humans to devour. This time the player isn’t going to be the one that is scared.

For the past few months, Krośkiewicz has been posting frequent updates on Carrion, revealing gameplay elements and mechanics. Most of the assets look to be repurposed from his previous title, BUTCHER.
BUTCHER is a fast-paced 2D shooter and a blood-soaked love letter to the cult classics of the genre. BUTCHER was published by Transhuman Design, the developer of Soldat, and received favorable reviews throughout. Most praised the brutal, yet fun, fast-paced style of gameplay.
From what’s been released so far, Carrion looks to be even more brutal and fast-paced. That’s not to say that there won’t be some form of opposition though. One of the most interesting tweets by KroÅ›kiewicz came in late November.
"Mac wants the flamethrower!" Mac gets the flamethrower. #indiegame #indiedev #monogame #screenshotsaturday #carriongame#60fps https://t.co/aMk7pGVQzn pic.twitter.com/D1c1QKXVj2

The tweet above shows off a video of a human that won’t go down as easily as the rest. The flamethrower wielding adversary not only poses an interesting threat to the big bad monster, and subsequently the player, but shows off some beautiful lighting effects as well.
When asked in a subtweet if the game would include multiplayer, KroÅ›kiewicz stated that he wasn’t sure at this point, but would keep it in the back of his head. If Carrion did indeed have multiplayer, it would add an interesting dynamic that hasn’t been seen since Left 4 Dead 2’s Zombies vs Humans mode.
