California Man Sparks Neighborhood Fears for Looking ‘Homeless’ With Baby Daughter: ‘Not a Crime’

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover

Homelessness is a serious problem in the United States, especially in more populated areas. However, for this California man, Chapman Hamborg, not being homeless was the least of his worries after a short walk with his baby. The father would have to deal with false allegations, law enforcement officers, and one crazy neighbor after what should have been a peaceful day with his child. Hamborg’s own neighbor would call the police on him for looking “homeless,” in this huge mix-up that seemingly inconvenienced everyone involved.

The Sun states that Chapman Hamborg was taking a walk with his daughter in a baby carrier that was strapped to the front of the California man’s torso. Hamborg would speak about the situation that he seems to find pretty funny on his Instagram. It’s there where users can get their side of the story. Hamborg was reportedly wearing a baggy brown Patagonia jacket, some stained jeans, and some slippers that had seen better days. Chapman had also had his hair in a bun on top of his head.

California Man Chapman Hamborg Accused of Being a Homeless Kidnapper by Neighbor

While taking that walk with his daughter, a neighbor had seen the pair out of their window and assumed the child had been stolen and the father was just a homeless man. Hamborg stated his surprise at the incident, as apparently their father-daughter walks are a pretty regular thing. The California man confirms that he takes those walks to give his wife a break from parenting from time to time. Social Media users also seem to be slightly upset about the situation. One YouTube commenter would even say that looking homeless is “Not a crime.”

It was not until later that night that police would finally arrive at Chapman Hamborg’s home. The California man was then asked to answer some questions regarding his walk earlier that day. Hamborg’s wife, Hannah, allegedly freaked out a little after hearing the news of the police being called. The officers then explained the entire situation to the family. A woman across the street had mistaken Chapman and feared for the child’s safety.

The California man was quick to make some jokes regarding the situation. He stated that perhaps it’s time to work on his appearance further. In addition to being a “tired dad,” Hamborg is also an artist. As a Huntington Beach native, it appears that this entire ordeal came as quite a surprise to Chapman Hamborg, Hannah, and their daughter. Although in the end, nobody was hurt. It seems like a pretty happy ending for those involved.
