If you’ve played a Call of Duty game online before, no doubt you’ll be aware of the prestige system and how it works. Shoot enough people in the head, level up, and eventually reset your level back to the beginning to show everyone else how great you are at shooty pew pew. It’s a tried and tested formula that’s been around since the dawn of time. A lot of excitement is coming for Black Ops Cold War!
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War just around the corner, fans all over the world will soon be able to show how great they are; only this time, there’s a difference as things go seasonal.
In Cold War, the changes start when you hit level 55 for the first time. Reach this level, and you will earn prestige 1 and the associated rewards. Until the first online season starts in December, Call of Duty will be in a pre-season where prestige levels 2 and 3 can be earned, with 5o levels separating the landmarks. Each prestige will unlock rewards such as weapon blueprints or emblems.
Once season 1 starts, things change again, as each season will allow players to earn 4 prestige levels before progress is reset. Thankfully, developers Treyarch has confirmed that the new season will only reset players back to the start of the prestige level they were working from, so no going back to level 1 if you were halfway through 3.
They have also stated that there will be 25+ prestige levels across all the seasons in this years’ Call of Duty, and they can be earned in the multiplayer or Warzone as the two titles will be connected.
Should you unlock all 4 levels during a season, the title of prestige master will be unlocked, which, along with bragging rights, will let players customize their prestige icon.
The new system promises plenty of rewards along the way and also gives players plenty of reasons to come back season after season; not that many will need it. Let us know your thoughts on this change in the comments.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available from November 13; we’ll see you online.
