This week’s Punisher #10 from Marvel shows the damage Frank Castle can do with the full might of The Hand behind him. However, several new superpowers and a thirst for vengeance seem to create a Punisher that is out of control. The issue shows off the violence and destruction that Castle can do with his new abilities. However, is this new version of Castle redeemable? Or, should he be stopped for good?
A Superpowered Punisher
Per CBR, Punisher #10 from Jason Aaron, Jesus Saiz, and Paul Azaceta sees Frank Castle get a new addition to his powerset. As the leader of The Hand, Castle gains several new abilities. They include the ability to fly, super-strength, and more. In issue #10, we see a new ability emerge, one that makes the Punisher see all his targets as faceless monsters. He can no longer distinguish them from one another, they are all monsters.
This new ability, called “Eye of the Beast,” lets Frank see a person’s sins and find those that have hidden themselves amongst the rest of the world. As The Hand explains it, the Punisher will see them as “things of meat, indistinguishable from one another”. Castle uses this new ability to take out several targets in the issue. However, while the Beast seems to have taken control of the hero, a moment of clarity comes when a scared kid holds a gun to the Punisher. The recognition in his eyes forces Castle to let the kid escape. Does this mean Castle can be saved?
Who Can Stop an Unstoppable Beast?
Meanwhile, the end of the issue brings more problems for Frank Castle. As the leader of the Hand is about to retire, his plans are cut short. Several former Avengers and Marvel heroes show up to put an end to Castle and The Hand. They include Captain America, Black Widow, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine.
While their arrival is no surprise to readers as the previous issue hinted at their intervention in the Punisher’s actions. It shows Captain America wondering if the Punisher can be redeemed. Perhaps the next issue may answer that question.
