The trailer for Marvel’s Captain Marvel is out and fans are breaking apart the video searching for Easter eggs. The official poster showing Carol Danvers as the cosmic hero is also here. Eagle eye fans found a well-hidden egg featuring a glimpse at Carol’s fluffy friend and pet, Chewie.
At a quick glance, fans won’t be able to tell the poster includes the feline, because let’s face it cats can hide pretty much anywhere, but through the power of technology; messing with the brightness and contrast, a cat can be seen in the bottom left corner of the photo.
This cat could be the space feline Chewie. Pet to Carol Danvers, a ferocious alien creature, and named after the famous Star Wars character. Known as a Flerken, this catlike being is a feline in every sense of the word and a deadly space creature. They’ve got whiskers, a tail, a desire to rule the world and knock over your glass.
In Marvel Comics, Carol takes Chewie on an adventure exploring the galaxy where they meet up with Guardian of the Galaxy member, Rocket Racoon. It’s here Rocket tries to kill Chewie while explaining to Carol her pet is an egg-laying species called a Flerken.
Flerken is dangerous space creatures capable of using tendrils in their mouths to attack and defend themselves. These tendrils also contain rows of fanged teeth they use to eat just about anything. A Flerken can also use dimensional travel to instantaneously transport themselves.
Chewie first official appearance in the comics is in the 2006 issue Giant-Size Ms. Marvel. Though unnamed there, the character earned a name in Ms. Marvel Vol. 2 number 5.
Will Chewie capture the hearts of fans when Captain Marvel hits theaters March 2019? While Captain Marvel defends the cosmos, how many cups will Chewie defeat? Here’s hoping the fluffy companion gets some screen time.
