With the success of the Sonic Movie, the world will likely see top videogame franchises coming to the silver screen. Earlier this week, Sega announced that Sonic franchise would receive a sequel movie. If the upcoming movies can copy the success of the Sonic movie, then the Video Game movie genre will no longer be the laughing stock of the town. In February, Gearbox and director Eli Roth announced that a Borderlands movie is in production. At the moment, not much is known about the narrative direction; however, we have learned who will play Lilith in the upcoming production.
On May 5th, Variety reported that Cate Blanchett was in talks to play Lilith in the upcoming film. Yesterday, Lionsgate officially announced that Cate Blanchett would play Lilith in the upcoming Live-Action Borderlands film. Many know Blanchett for her roles in Thor: Ragnarok, The Lord of the Rings, and Avatar. She is also the voice of Valka in How to Train Your Dragon.
After the official announcement was made, Eli Roth had this to say,
“I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do. From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director’s dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we’re going to create another iconic character in her already storied career.”
Whose Your Dreamcast For Borderlands?
Hopefully, Cate does just to the Siren thief Lilith in the upcoming movie. Who do you think should be cast as Mad Moxxi, Tiny Tina, or the other vault hunters? Personally, I’d love to see either Terry Crews or Rukari Austin (Former Xbox CM) as Roland. How will the Borderlands movie turn out? We will just have to wait and see.
