Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG game that focuses on a narrative and the world around your customizable character. The game will not have multiplayer when it launches next year. Post-launch may be a different story as it appears that those at CD Projekt Red are not dismissing the opportunity to create a multiplayer dynamic for their game. Not yet anyway.
Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips sat down with Cyberpunk 2077 Lead Quest Designer PaweÅ Sasko to discuss a plethora of topics, including multiplayer. Here’s what Sasko had to say regarding if the game would be a single-player only title at launch:
“Yes, 100 percent. We’re not really working on multiplayer, our sole focus is single-player. We’ll do that, then we’ll see. We’re not saying no but we’re not saying yes. If something does happen it will definitely be post-launch and that’s as much as I can say right now.”
Phillips then asked if there was anything the studio would avoid while developing a possible multiplayer mode. Sasko said:
“For sure, I mean we’re known for good stories, amazing characters, choices and consequences. So this is something for sure we’d be going with, if anything happened regarding that. We’d avoid anything that’s not that. If we do it, it’ll be our style.”
Again, it has to be said that Sasko and those CD Projekt Red have not confirmed a multiplayer mode or anything like that. They just do not want to dismiss the idea entirely. Even if CD Projekt Red decides to stay away from multiplayer, Cyberpunk 2077 appears to be another big hit for the studio.
Detailed customization, a lively world, and varied gameplay tactics are what will drive Cyberpunk 2077 when it hits shelves next year. You could argue that CD Projekt Red walked out of E3 2019 as one of the big winners of the expo with its behind-closed-doors demo that impressed and the addition of John Wick star Keanu Reeves to Cyberpunk 2077’s main cast. Reeves’ involvement was by far one of the most noteworthy aspects of the expo and it looks like he’ll be a major part of the game’s story.
Keanu Reeves plays Johnny Silverhand, an A.I companion to V during the game. During the interview, Sasko also spoke about Silverhand’s importance to the narrative:
“It’s such an important role, he’s in the game from almost the beginning to the very, very end. He’s one of the core arcs of the story.”
Cyberpunk 2077 will release April 16th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
