Vince McMahon has officially retired as chairman and CEO of the WWE. After 40 years as the leading man of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand, the now 77-year-old billionaire has decided it’s time for him to retire for good. Both Vince McMahon and the WWE have released statements about his retirement.
Vince McMahon Retiring After 40 Years
In a statement, Vince McMahon released the following, saying as he approaches 77, “I feel its time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE.” McMahon went on to say how, over the years, how much of a privilege it’s been to help WWE “bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you.”
“I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand.”, said McMahon.
McMahon ends with a touching mention for the WWE fans.
“Most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us into your homes every week and being your choice of entertainment,” he added. “I hold the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans all over the world who have liked, currently like, and sometimes even love our form of Sports Entertainment.”
Vince McMahon also tweeted a short announcement to spread the news.
At 77, time for me to retire.

The Career of Longtime WWE CEO Vince McMahon
In 1982, Vince McMahon bought the company from his father, Vincent J. McMahon, after Vince Sr. created the WWE in 1963 with partner Toots Mondt after breaking away from the National Wrestling Alliance. Vince McMahon’s take over after his father’s time brought much more success to the franchise. During this time, Vince McMahon brought about the highly popular annual live professional wrestling event, Wrestlemania, in 1985. Wrestlemania has gone on to have 38 installations this past April event being McMahon’s last as CEO.
