Chernobylite is one of my big surprises from this year. Despite not traditionally being a fan of single-player survival games, it’s opting for small, bite-sized experiences makes it a lot more manageable and much less overbearing. That and, well, it’s not your traditional survival game. In my review, I loved many aspects of the game, including its well-written story and enjoyable moment-to-moment play. And while I was interested to see what console players got from the experience, it looks like we’ve been done one better. Today, the team unveiled a DLC roadmap for Chernobylite alongside the console release, showcasing what to expect in the year ahead!
From what’s shown of the DLC roadmap (displayed on the official blog post), the team is aiming for Chernobylite to get a new major update each quarter, starting with both Halloween and Christmas of this year. These will include everything from new monsters, missions, maps, story content, and much more! There will also be optional paid content, taking the form of a “Content Pack” for each quarter and the Christmas update. It’s unknown what’s in these content packs, but hopefully, they are well worthwhile. While I loved the base game, it’ll be interesting to see how differently the game plays once the final set of updates appears later in 2022.
For those who wished to see Chernobylite on next-gen consoles, even though the game is only coming to current-gen today, there’s some good news for you as well! The team had this to say regarding next-gen:
The game will have backwards compatibility on the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X although a next gen release is slated for the near future. Once the the next gen version of Chernobylite is released, stalkers, who own the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions, will receive free, automatic upgrades to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S versions, respectively.”
Are you excited about the new content on the way? What about the now-live console release? Let me know!
