The acclaimed survival horror RPG Chernobylite is heading to next-gen consoles this spring. Developer The Farm 51 and publisher All in! Games have announced an April 21st release date for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. On the same day, we’ll see the release of the Chernobylite Blue Flames DLC. Additionally, April 21st brings a physical release for the PlayStation 5 version and an enhanced version on PC. Players can expect multiple updates and content releases throughout the year.
In a statement about the upcoming next-gen release, Piotr Żygadło, CEO at All in! Games had this to say.
If last year is any indication, Chernobylite has taken a worthy place among the best indie games of 2021. The next-gen release is the natural next step that fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting. We’re proud to say that it will be the biggest visual revamp of the game so far and that due to the simultaneous release of the PC Enhanced Edition, players across all platforms will undoubtedly benefit.
About the next-gen enhancements
Players who already own Chernobylite will be able to get the next-gen and PC enhanced editions through a free upgrade. All versions of the upgrade will introduce ray tracing to improve what is already a visually stunning game. The console versions, specifically, will receive new graphic profiles. These include both 4K, 30FPS, and 1080p, 60FPS settings.
The PlayStation 5 update adds features for the DualSense Controller as well. Including adaptive triggers, enhanced vibrations, and compatibility with PlayStation’s Activity Card feature.
To make an already eventful release day even better, the 21st will also see the launch of the Chernobylite Blue Flames DLC. Blue Flames offers a free content update titled “Memories of You,” a new weapon, the Silent Assassin crossbow, and a paid content pack. In “Memories of You,” players will learn more about Tatyana and Igor’s fateful backstory through new events and collectibles.
In 2021, Chernobylite won the “Indie of the Year” Player’s Choice Award from IndieDB. Also, the game was featured on Steam’s “Best of 2021” list. It’s safe to say that this game will only get better with time. Be on the lookout for the enhanced editions, launching April 21st, 2022.
