Don’t Worry Darling had more attention on its production and press junket than the movie itself. From rumors to memes, people did not pay too much attention to the Olivia Wilde thriller. One thing that caught people’s attention was a video that looked like Chris Pine was spit on by Harry Styles. Social media exploded, but now, we have an answer from the Wonder Woman actor from Esquire.
Like many of the rumors that the cast has shut down (or, in some cases, ignored), Chris Pine shut down the rumor that Harry Styles spit on him. He went on to compliment the actor as a “kind guy.” He does admit that it does look like it happened, but what happened was his co-star saying, “It’s just words, isn’t it?” The phrase was an inside joke for doing press when you are jet-lagged without the mental power to go through question after question.
PR nightmare: Chris Pine seemingly spit on by Harry Styles

The PR aspect of it all did cause a bit of a problem. While on a long flight after the incident, the actor was asleep on the plane until his publicist woke him up “in a state.” He was informed that they had to “craft a message about what happened in Venice.” In the end, like all things, it passed. Between a crafted statement and the world getting attention on something else, people moved on.
Besides explaining the incident of him not being spit on by Harry Styles, Chris Pine also explained the many memes made about him that looked like he was out of it during interviews. The source was the long flights that scrambled his brain and sucked out his energy. When shown various examples, he had a good laugh and was able to take the joke about his exhaustion.
After all the hilarity and drama, Don’t Worry Darling was met with poor reviews and bombed at the box office after grossing $87 million worldwide.
