Another actor has been added to help fill out the cast for an upcoming Spider-Man-adjacent Marvel movie. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, actor Christopher Abbott is joining Sony’s Kraven The Hunter. Rumors in the report have suggested that Abbott will play the main villain in the film: The Foreigner, who is one of Spider-Man’s many fearsome foes.
The cast of Sony’s Kraven The Hunter is shaping up nicely. Christopher Abbott will join Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the movie, who will play the titular Kraven the Hunter. Other cast members include Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe, Academy Award nominated actress Ariana DeBose, and the lead from HBO’s The Many Saints of Newark Alessandro Nivola. Rumors have also speculated that Nivola will play some sort of villain in the movie.
Kraven the Hunter will join Venom and Morbius in Sony’s cinematic Marvel universe of Spider-Man characters. The Kraven The Hunter movie is set to be directed by J.C. Chandor and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The trio of Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay for the movie.
Christopher Abbott is perhaps best known for his role in George Clooney’s Catch-22, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. However, he has appeared in several other projects, including On the Count of Three, Black Bear, and the incredible sci-fi horror film Possessor. Abbott can next be seen in Searchlight’s movie Poor Things and the Apple TV+ anthology The Crowded Room.
Who is Kraven the Hunter?
Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains — despite never appearing in one of the many Spider-Man films from the last 20 years. As his name implies, Kraven is a skilled hunter, making him a skilled tracker, tactician, combatant, and weapons expert. He has frequently presented a challenge for Spider-Man and several other Marvel Comics characters over the years.
