A new one-shot from DC will explore the relationship between Clark and Jon Kent. Tom King and Chris Burnham are in charge of the issue that pays tribute to the Man of Steel. The story will follow the tragic events of Justice League #75, where the titular heroes meet their end. The one-shot, Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League – Superman #1, will examine the relationship between Clark Kent and his son. Plus, the issue will contain a second story that pays tribute to Aquaman.
What Can We Expect From Clark and Jon Kent?
An official synopsis for the one-shot reads:
“When Pariah and his forces of the Great Darkness laid waste to the most powerful superheroes of all time, all hope was lost…with the Man of Steel suffering the same fate as that of his comrades, join us for a look at a world of dreams he would never have thought possible when alive. Where there’s life there’s hope, and with that hope comes a deeper unraveling of the tapestry of DC Universe’s biggest event of 2022.”
The main cover for the one-shot is done by Batman Incorporated artist Chris Burnham. As such, it depicts Superman next to his son, who is wearing a Robin-inspired Superboy suit. As they stand in a spotlight, a hail of bullets bounce off them, showcasing their invulnerability. According to Burnham, this story will focus on Clark Kent’s struggle to live up to his father’s expectations.
Similarly, Writer Tom King shared that this is an “important and emotional” story in Superman’s mythos. The relationship between Clark and Jon Kent is analyzed as Clark continuously leaves to save the world. Therefore, it examines the effect that had on both of the Kent men.
What Else Can We Expect in Dark Crisis?
Also included in the one-shot will be a tribute story to another fallen Justice League member: Aquaman. Taking on this tribute is Aquaman writer Brandon Thomas, Chuck Brown (Black Manta), and Fico Ossio (Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom). While no synopsis is known for what the story will focus on, it will be a tribute of some sort to the aquatic hero. Although not quite as emphatic as the titular Superman tribute.
Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League – Superman #1 hits shelves on July 12.
