Yesterday afternoon, GearsViking, also know as Rod Fergusson announced that he would be departing from The Coalition at the beginning of March. For those who do not know, Rod Fergusson has been with the Gears of War Franchise since its conception. In a series of tweets, Rod announced that he would be joining Blizzard to help with Diablo’s team; he also asked fans of the Gears of War franchise to support Gears Tactics when it releases later this year. On the same night, as the Coalition head announced his departure, former Gears icon Cliff Bleszinski tweeted that he would be interested in consulting for Gears.
In 2012, Cliff Bleszinski announced that he would be departing from Epic Games. Originally the RealCliffyb planned to retire; however, that plan would not last for long. In 2014, Bleszinski announced that he would be opening a new studio, and there would be news to follow. The title that was ultimately released was the underwhelming LawBreakers. Now with the departure of The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson, Cliff Bleszinski might just be the name to fill the void. In a series of tweets, Cliff stated that he would be open to working on Microsoft’s Gears of War.
In the main tweet, Bleszinski states that a lot of his ideas for the franchise are still on the table. When asked what they were, he said that he could not openly discuss any of the potential ideas due to the nondisclosure agreements that he had previously signed. If we are going, to be honest, Gears doesn’t feel like Gears anymore. Although the campaigns have been impactful, the multiplayer has felt rather lackluster.
Cliffy B to E3?
Hopefully, Microsoft will consider Cliff Bleszinski’s offer to consult on the popular franchise. Will Gears of War return to its former glory? Will we potentially see CliffyB return to the E3 stage? Only time will tell. What do you think of the newest trilogy? Check out what Oliver thought of Gears 5.
