Clifford the Big Red Dog is set to hit theatres next year. The first trailer is out now.
Clifford the Big Red Dog is making a comeback in live-action form. The movie adaption of the beloved children’s book follows the colossal canine from puppyhood – when middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth adopts the normal-sized pup and brings him back to her New York City apartment – all the way through his massive growth spurt, which causes Emily and her giant companion to go on a Big Apple adventure together.
The first trailer of the Paramount Pictures film reveals a bright red Clifford sitting in a line-up of different pups, dwarfing the other dogs. Much like the character in the well-loved Scholastic book, the film version of Clifford appears to be huge, happy, and eager to make new friends as he ends the teaser with a friendly lick of the camera.
Paramount is also encouraging people to express their thanks to their amazing pets this Thanksgiving and has invited readers to share photos of their own pups with the hashtag #LoveBig with @CliffordMovie on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Despite the excitement and surge of nostalgia that this news brings, with many sharing images of the furry friends on social media, some netizens have been debating if the teaser and upcoming live-action film is a fair representation of the famous pooch. One Twitter user commented: “”Is he CGI or y’all just paint a dog red without his consent?,” while another user compared the size of the original Clifford with the live-action version, saying, “I already don’t like it. How Clifford is portrayed in the books and in the tv series, he should almost be the size of Godzilla.”
Clifford the Big Red Dog is set to premiere on November 5 of 2021. Watch the first teaser below.
