Netflix has renewed Cobra Kai for its “biggest and baddest” final season. The sixth and final outing of the karate series is set to start production in late spring, according to Deadline.
The announcement came today in a letter to fans by creators, writers, and executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg (seen below). The letter addresses the final season of Cobra Kai while going over the journey the franchise has taken from the films to the sequel series, which originated on YouTube before moving to Netflix. They made sure to point out that the end is coming from their terms, giving fans some relief as the streamer is known for axing some major shows.
The three creators do leave the door open for more in the universe. They tease in the letter that they “hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line.”

After 30 years, the series brought characters Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) back to go head-to-head with new rivals and friends, along with their families, into the mix of their rivalry. Across the six seasons, it has gone on a long journey for these men to see how much they have matured and mastered martial arts. Now, with the final season of Cobra Kai, it will be seen how far they have really come.
Macchio and Zabka were joined by a mix of faces from the films to new people coming into the Miyagiverse. From the films, it starred Yufi Okumoto, Martin Kove, Thomas Ian Griffith, Elisabeth Shue, Sean Kanan, Robyn Lively, and Tamlyn Tomita. Newcomers for the series included Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young, Alicia Hannah-Kim, Gianna DeCenzo, and more.
No date has been set for the final season of Cobra Kai.
