Paramount has recruited Peyton List (Cobra Kai) for an in-development young adult series with the working title School Spirits. The series, ordered on Wednesday, will be based on the upcoming graphic novel by Nate Trinrud, Megan Trinrud, and Maria Nguyen. The novel will be published this fall by Clarion Books/HarperAlley.
The story focuses on a murdered teen girl who finds herself trapped in her high school that is acting like the afterlife. While stuck, she investigates her murder with her ex-boyfriend as her prime suspect. She finds out that there are more students in this school, so it becomes a balance of fitting in like any teen would want while looking for a killer.
Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars) serves as showrunner and executive producer of the Peyton List Paramount teen drama. The Trinruds will executive produce with him. Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, the executive vice presidents and co-heads of Nickelodeon and Awesomeness, will look over the production.
It has been important for Paramount to deliver young adult content on its streaming service. It recently revived iCarly and will release the film Honor Society next month. The film will star Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things).
