I think Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is notoriously infamous for having a huge file size. 250GB of space for just one game is insane, even if this year’s Call of Duty was a refreshing return. My internet connection would take 30 hours to download that, so I won’t be touching it with a 10-foot pole. On the bright side though, it seems Treyarch has discovered the long lost art of file compression, as this year’s Call of Duty is looking a lot better on storage devices. Thanks to a minimum specifications sheet released today, COD: Black Ops Cold War sits at around 82GB for everything (and only 35GB for the multiplayer).
That’s a vast improvement from the previous entry. COD: Modern Warfare may let you selectively download parts of the game now, but this comes much too late. With COD: Black Ops: Cold War only a week and a half away, there’s not really much point. Regardless, it’s really nice to see the latest entry adopt the selective downloading formula. Being able to choose what you want to download is an underrated luxury. This will be especially true with rumors of the Xbox Series S only have 364GB of usable storage. Take that last point with a grain of salt though, as that hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
Speaking on minimum specifications though, it’s good to see the specifications being rather low. COD: Black Ops Cold War runs pretty well on my mid-range hardware (if the beta is anything to go off of) so I hope to see it run smoother with this in mind. If you’re interested to see if you can run the game, you can see the minimum specifications sheet above.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases on November 13 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
