Commodore 64 Music Gets Some Love in New Kickstarter Campaign

Fans of the Commodore 64 (I assume there are still a few of you out there) got some great news last week. As the charity organization 8-Bit Symphony launched a Kickstarter to create a new orchestral collection of some of the 8-bit home computer‘s best music. But this isn’t just some haphazard cash grab. They are bringing the legendary Rob Hubbard together with the world-famous Czech Studio Orchestra in Prague to record a double CD set. The tracks will all be in 5.1 Surround master-quality Blu-Ray synced to the Hull concert visuals. That too shabby. In fact, that’s just plain awesome to hear if you are a Commodore 64 fan. Or even just a fan of music in general.

Depending on how much you want to pledge backer rewards include the CDs, Blu-rays, signed memorabilia. You can even a THEC64 Mini system at the higher levels. If you wanna spend a few thousand dollars you can even get backstage attendance at the concert dress rehearsal.  Some pretty varied and substantial rewards. Again, I can imagine this sounds amazing for anyone nostalgic for tunes from the Commodore 64. But why listen to me when you can get it straight from the source.

We’re aiming for Classic FM and Scala here. We have amazing scores that our concert proved have an accessibility and excitement way beyond the retro. Now we need professional recordings to make the music more accessible and provide further momentum towards more concerts, with Albert Hall firmly in our sights.

The Kickstarter currently has 25 days to go and has received $27,000 of it’s roughly $78,00o goal.
