For years since its 2015 finale, fans of Community have been wanting closure, and the movie will deliver that when it arrives on Peacock. NBCUniversal’s streaming platform has made the order, and original cast members are returning to reprise their roles. Creator Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty) is attached. It will star Joel McHale as Jeff Winger, Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir, Alison Brie as Annie Edison, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Jim Rash as Craig Pelton, and Ken Jeong as Ben Chang.
The news about a Community movie comes a month after Harmon gave an interview with Newsweek on the timeline of the film by teasing that it was a “matter of when” as he had tried to get the project off the ground for years. As the filmmaking process begins, that statement still stands, but at least we know it is official rather than taking teases from interviews.
Community movie is happening and coming to Peacock
Before the prospect of a movie, Community aired on NBC for its first five seasons before ending with its sixth season on Yahoo! Screen. During its successful run, it had Emmy nominations and a single win for animation on the episode Remedial Chaos Theory. The series followed a suspended lawyer who enrolled in a community college.
Harmon will write with Andrew Guest, who served as a writer on a handful of episodes during the early days of the series. They will executive produce with McHale, Russ Krasnoff, and Gary Foster.
Chevy Chase is not listed for the Community movie. He starred in the first four seasons before an exit due to conflicts with Harmon and others. Donald Glover, who starred in the first five seasons, is also not listed. Yvette Nicole Brown is also unconfirmed for the return to the Colorado-based community college.
