Creepshow, originally a 1982 horror film, will rise from the grave, reborn in a new form. The form of a series. And it’s going to be produced by The Walking Dead‘s very own Greg Nicotero, so it’s already set up to be worth watching – if you can find it. Like any ghost or monster, you won’t see it just walking around in broad daylight (i.e. on TV). Instead, you’ll have to tune in to Shudder, a horror-focused web streaming service owned by AMC. Creepshow will begin its run in 2019, and Nicotero will also direct the first episode.
But only the first. As an anthology series, each episode of Creepshow will present an entirely different story, and each story will have its own director. No news on if any of those episodes will be remasters of the ones seen in the original movie, or if they’ll be totally new. With the revolving door of talent (Nicotero will remain as producer for the series, by the way), the promised fright fest should feel fresh every time. It also gives classic horror super fans something to look forward to in addition to catering to a modern audience with expectations of quality effects. You can bet every single episode will find itself being compared to the movie.
There were, in fact, three Creepshow films, though each subsequent installment was largely seen as inferior to the last. The first presented five tales centering on zombies, an apocalypse, monsters, revenge murder, and insectophobia (properly called entomophobia). As for this upcoming series, we don’t yet know how many episodes there will be, or for how long they will run. The short story format will be good for it, though, since full-length movies are forced to drag things out for the sake of runtime. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming months.
