San Diego Comic-Con is the time for gaming, comics, new TV show releases and of course movie trailers! Fans at SDCC encountered genres like science fiction, super-heroes, and fantasy. And Speaking of fantasy, SDCC offered Harry Potter fans another look at the upcoming return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World during Warner Bros.’ Hall H presentation with a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
This series is set before the Harry Potter books, and as Part 2 of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fans are in for a treat. With the return of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magical zoologist who later becomes famous within the series for his indispensable guide to the magical creatures of the world.
The trailer starts with young Newt and even young Professor Dumbledore (Jude Law). Showing you Newts fears in a test with a boggart. Newt isn’t writing as much as running around and doing more magical heroics. Dumbledore and Newt team up to track down dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). Of course, you will see Newts continuous interactions with his variety of magical creatures. Nicholas Flamel is introduced in this film, as a ghastly and delicately old man, probably beyond 400 years of age? You will remember Flamel as the alchemist from Harry Potter The Sorcerer’s Stone.
This film seems darker than the first film: showing off Grindelwald as he works to gain power within the Wizarding world. Harry Potter history teaches fans about the rising discontent among wizards in the early 1900’s. Wizards are hiding from the Muggle world and are fighting to practice openly. Hopefully, with the last films realization and the heroics of this film the defeat of Grindelwald will come and we can reach the point in magical history where fear of open practice vanishes.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters on November 16th.
