Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick have recently been announced as the newest additions to Cuckoo, an upcoming horror film directed by Tilman Singer. Stevens and Henwick join existing cast members Hunter Schafer, Marton Csókás, Greta Fernández, and Jan Bluthardt.
Cuckoo was created by Tilman Singer, the creator, and director of Luz, a 2018 horror movie that follows a young cab driver in a race to survive and escape the demonic creature that’s followed her into a local police station. Singer also wrote and directed El Fin Del Mundo, a 2016 short following the struggle of two lovers torn apart after they commit a robbery gone wrong, and The Events at Mr. Yamamoto’s Alpine Residence, a 2015 short following Shannon Malloy as an unnamed woman struggling with boredom as a mysterious organization works behind the scenes.
Singer has not released much information on the plot or character details of Cuckoo, preferring to keep the details of the film under wraps until its release, but it has been confirmed that Cuckoo was shot on 35mm film in Germany and is scheduled to be released in 2023, according to Deadline. The film was also reportedly financed by Neon.
What We Know About the Newest ‘Cuckoo’ Cast Additions
Between the two newest cast additions of Cuckoo, Dan Stevens boasts the most recent on-screen appearance, having made a guest appearance in a 2022 episode of Love, Death & Robots. Stevens’ other roles include Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey and the voice of Scarlemange on Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, an animated series on Netflix. Stevens also appeared as the Beast in the 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, starring opposite Emma Watson.
Jessica Henwick most recently appeared as Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections (2021). She also starred as Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Aimee in Love and Monsters (2020) and will appear in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a Knives Out sequel. Henwick’s largest role to date is her appearances as Coleen Wing in the MCU Netflix shows, holding a large role in The Defenders and Iron Fist, as well as making a guest appearance on Luke Cage.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cuckoo will be produced by Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell, and Ben Rimmer, in a cooperation between Germany’s Fiction Park and Waypoint Entertainment from the U.S.
Cuckoo, starring Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick, is slated to be released in 2023.
