Publishers Bandai Namco has announced that the Dark Souls servers will be put on hold in preparation of the Elden Ring release at the end of the month, with no plans to reactivate the PC servers until Elden Ring has settled properly – the Elden Ring had best live up to expectations, or those Dark Souls fanatics will be very unhappy.
This comes after the recent news that Bandai Namco temporarily deactivated the PvP servers for Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, and the remastered version in late January, after reports of a security issue. It was thought that this issue could potentially leak login details, brick PCs, as well as execute background programs – it’s better to be safe than sorry, though, isn’t it?
What does the Elden Ring release have to do with it?
After what seemed like weeks and weeks of silence (oh wait, it was), Bandai Namco says they are still investigating the issue with the servers, and their exploration has extended to Elden Ring as well, which we all know is due to be released on February 25th. So, as it stands, they are not looking at Dark Souls PC servers until the dust has settled with their new upcoming RPG – hopefully, the success of Elden Ring will make people forget about that Dark Souls game.

The publishers wanted to say to fans of the game that they will update you all as soon as they can with relevant news regarding this development. The news that the Dark Souls servers will be put on hold isn’t all bad, though, because we are all excited about the Elden Ring release, with it being tipped as the hottest game of the year already by many outlets, even George R.R. Martin himself has spoken about how the Elden Ring will be groundbreaking for the gaming industry.
