It’s not often you read about two of your favorite directors collaborating, but sometimes, the universe blesses us with great news. According to an exclusive report from Variety, David Lynch is joining the cast of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming, semi-autobiographical drama, The Fabelmans. However, at the moment, Lynch’s role in the film is being kept secret.
The Fabelmans is set to be the first — but hopefully not last — a collaboration between David Lynch and Steven Spielberg. Both directors emerged during the 1970s and have gained immense popularity since then. Lynch in particular is widely recognized and loved by film fans for his work on movies like Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, and more. His 1980 historical drama, The Elephant Man, received eight Oscar nominations and his 1990 film, Wild at Heart, won the coveted Palme d’Or award at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. Lynch is also known for his work on the popular TV series, Twin Peaks, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
Aside from directing, David Lynch has done his fair share of acting. He has held small roles in TV shows like The Cleveland Show and Louie, and he also acted in the 2017 movie, Lucky. However, his most notable acting work can be found in Twin Peaks where Lynch plays FBI agent Gordon Cole.
Little is known about the plot of The Fabelmans. However, it has been described as a semi-autobiographical movie about Steven Spielberg’s youth growing up in Arizona. In joining the cast of The Fabelmans, Lynch will join actors Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Julia Butters and Gabriel LaBelle. The movie is set to be released around Thanksgiving later this year.
