DC announced a new Green Lantern Comic is to be released. Grant Morrison will be teaming up with artist Liam Sharp, with Hal Jordan titled The Green Lantern. However, Morrison wants to change the perspective of Hal Jordan. He isn’t just a Universal Hero but a Space Cop. The new tone for the comic reaches is taken Hal Jordan to new depths, depths that show his humanity.
“The basic concept is that Jordan is like a space cop that patrols a sector of the universe where anything can happen,” Morrison told IGN. “We’ve made it more like a police procedural.” “Instead of the big, epic, 12-part stories, we’re focusing down on the everyday life of a space cop,” Morrison continued. “Basically, it’s no more apocalypse-ending storylines.”
Seeing Jordan as a space cop is not a new idea though, dealing with everyday procedural work should be an exciting task for DC’s Green Lantern Team. There are many ways to approach the Lantern series from a multitude of corps to Hal Jordan teaming up with our favorite Star Trek team,(IDW). Choosing the “local” space cop story will bring a new idea of who Jordan really is. Having this change of pace storyline may give readers a more relatable character than they have seen.
Jordan’s new debut will be him defending the Earth against three intergalactic criminals who crashland on our home planet. Sharp and Morrison concur on the idea of proving that Jordan no longer belongs on earth. They hope to convey his challenges with being apart of Earths everyday life, compared to being with the Lantern Corp. The duo hopes to display his “need for the heavens” as Sharp put it. This project is all about dissecting Hal Jordan as a person and not just another DC hero. Showing Hal as a person with desires, fears, and even a bad boy streak if we read Morrison’s comments correctly.
Morrison is adamant to show Hal Jordan in depth.
“He has other lives on other planets. We’re gonna be looking into a lot of things that I don’t think we’ve seen a lot with Hal Jordan before,” Morrison said.
The Green Lantern Series releases this November 2018.
