DC is once again celebrating Pride month with DC Pride 2022. This entry in the annual anthology series will feature over 100 pages of LGBTQ+ stories and characters from diverse creators. Plus, the book will feature an introduction from transgender activist Nicole Maines. Along with DC’s Pride anthology, the comic publisher announced plans for other Pride-related projects.
What is DC Pride 2022?
Last year, DC celebrated Pride month with the debut of DC Pride. The 80-page comic kicked off DC’s Pride anthology. It put the spotlight on the LGBTQ+ characters in the DC Universe. It featured stories from some top creators like James Tynion IV, Stephen Byrne, Andrew Wheeler, and many more. Plus, it offered profiles on the diverse characters and actors portraying LGBTQ+ characters in the DCTV Universe.
This year, DC is bringing the annual anthology series back. This time, the comic will include over 100 pages of stories and spotlights from DC’s queer characters. DC’s Pride anthology will bring together some awesome team-ups both in and out of the book. Some of this year’s creative teams and the characters they are focusing on include:
- Alysia Yeoh and Batgirl by Jadzia Axelrod and Lynne Yoshii
- Aquaman/Jackson Hyde by Alyssa Wong and W. Scott Forbes
- Green Lantern/Jo Mullein by Tini Howard and Evan Cagle
- Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy by Dani Fernandez and Zoe Thorogood
- The Ray by Greg Lockard and Giulio Macaione
- Superman/Jon Kent by Devin Grayson and Nick Robles
- Tim Drake by Travis G. Moore
This is just a small taste of what DC has in store with DC Pride 2022.
What Else is DC Doing?
Along with the DC Pride anthology comic, the publisher is also releasing some other Pride-related content. G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara are teaming up for Poison Ivy. This new six-issue series sees Gotham’s resident plant-lady leaving Gotham behind to complete her greatest work. In addition to Poison Ivy, Nubia: Queen of the Amazons will debut later this year. This new four-issue series is the product of Stephanie Williams, Alitha Martinez, and Mark Morales. It will follow the one true queen on her next adventure.
Elsewhere, Meghan Fitzmartin, Belen Ortega, and Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque are teaming up for DC Pride: Tim Drake Special. This book will gather the breakout story from Batman: Urban Legends for the first time. In addition, the 64-page comic features a new Tim Drake story. It sees Drake teaming up with his former Young Justice teammates and the Batgirls.
DC Pride 2022 hits shelves later this June and is just the beginning of DC’s Pride celebration!
