Marvel is giving fans a first look at the upcoming world of nightmares in Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1. The new series, from Taboo, B. Earl, and Juan Ferreyra, follows Peter Parker on a trip to L.A. What is supposed to be an average trip soon turns into a nightmare. Everyone’s favorite web-slinger finds himself where dreams and reality meet!
Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man First Look
In a special first look in the series’ opening issue, Spidey is shown swinging through the skyscrapers of the City of Angels. However, something about the cityscape is off, as if it has been transformed into an M.C. Escher painting. The preceding scenes show Spider-Man’s webs springing to life and chasing him down. Meanwhile, Spider-Man’s body takes on a literal interpretation of his pseudonym. Peter Parker grows and contorts into a spider-like monster.
Elsewhere, Parker is shown changing into his iconic blue and red suit atop a city bus as the sun sets on the beautiful California skyline. Then it shows him webbing down a wild bear and swinging home as if that is completely normal behavior. Finally, the final preview shows Parker diving into a cloud of bats as he makes his way across the city.
Any Familiar Faces?
It wouldn’t be a trip to Las Angeles without a few superhero cameos. One of the villains that Parker faces off against in his time in L.A. is a familiar one to New Mutants and X-Men fans. That’s right, Demon Bear shows up to cause some problems for Parker’s L.A. vacay.
In a world where magic, science, dreams, and reality meet, Spider-Man is up for crazy new adventures. This new series lets the creative team flex their horror muscles to create a Spidey tale amid an actual world of nightmares. After all, what is scarier than L.A.?
Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1Â is on sale on October 19, just in time for Halloween.
