July’s Kodansha’s Bessautsu Shonen Magazine issue revealed that the author duo behind Deadman Wonderland is working on a new manga. The manga will be titled Retropolis Scratch, but there is no confirmation on how long the series will be. Also, there is no confirmation if the series can be found outside of Bessautsu’s magazine.
The Deadman Wonderland duo also recently launched a steampunk action manga named Smokin’ Parade. Kadokawa published the 10th and final volume in July 2021. The manga ran from August 2015 to April 2021, with Yen Press releasing the manga in English. Their newest work is described as;
Tsukimichi Dori has a specialty in ‘running away’. Instead of entering high school, he runs away to Kyoto. But what awaits him is a great mystery, a mirror world where right and left are flipped. In this world, tattoo artists take place in a battle called “Bokusenkon”. Tsukimichi must now make use of his escape skills as his “best and worst” youth is about to begin.
“Deadman Wonderland” Authors: The Big Name for That Season
Jinsei Katoka and Kazuma Kondou are wildly known for their popular horror series Deadman Wonderland. The duo launched the 13th and final volume of Deadman Wonderland in Monthly Shonen Ace in 2006. The series officially ended in July 2013. Currently, Viz Media has released the series in English for North America.
The manga received a 12-episode television anime adaptation in 2011. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series on its platforms. However, many fans criticized the anime for rushing through the manga storyline and leaving out important plot points. The anime is not finished and probably won’t be due to the studio going bankrupt in 2015. At this time, the series is available on Blu-ray/DVD.
Kodansha will feature the Retropolis Scratch manga in the August issue on July 7th. The upcoming manga by the Deadman Wonderland authors will be featured on the August cover. It will also have an opening cover page inside the magazine.
